MATS Appeal Fall 2019

As our community marks Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month with a number of events and activities, we at MATS thank you for your past support and once again ask for your help. Your gift is vitally important because we rely solely on private funds and private donations.

Our mission is to provide transitional housing, support and referral services to people who are homeless, to educate our community on issues of homelessness, and to advocate for lasting solutions. Although the problem of homelessness is persistent in the Monadnock Region, we are proud of the difference we have been able to make in the lives of families and individuals.

During the 29 years that MATS has been in operation, we have provided hundreds of adults, children and families with a safe and secure environment. Our guests benefit from a stable setting while they access the services they need to transition to permanent and independent living situations. Our Program Manager connects our guests to resources such as job training, child care, and counseling so that when they leave our Shelter, they have the life skills and support they need to avoid slipping back into homelessness.

In 2018, we served seven families, a total of 24 people. The average stay is about nine months, which is longer than most facilities because our guests stay until they have secured housing.

Becoming a guest at MATS is truly life-changing. The majority of our past guests report that they have been able to maintain stable housing after they leave. Our support gives them the hope and confidence they need to make it on their own.

We also partner with The River Center in Peterborough to assist families and individuals so that they can avoid homelessness in the first place. So far this year, our Program Manager has provided guidance and advice to 42 individuals and families in this way.

You can help with this important work by donating generously to our 2019 fall campaign. Please send your check, made payable to MATS, to P.O. Box 3053, Peterborough, NH 03458. You may also donate via our website at Please also consider subscribing to our monthly newsletter to stay informed of our progress.
