Dear friend of MATS,
COVID- 19 and the shrinking economy have affected everyone. The most critically impacted are the families and individuals in the Monadnock Region who are living on the edge, paycheck to paycheck. Many of them have lost their jobs, reliable transportation, and — in some cases — their homes. These folks aren’t “street people”; many of them are our friends and neighbors,
Some are astonished to learn there are people who are homeless in our area. The reason we rarely see them is because they are sleeping in their cars, are temporarily housed on a friend’s couch or floor – or are living in campgrounds or the woods. As winter approaches and the weather turns colder, these members of our community may have no place to live.
The Monadnock Area Transitional Shelter (MATS) has provided housing, counseling and rehabilitative services to the homeless for thirty years. Our guest families benefit from a stable setting while they, with the help of our full-time Program Manager, access the services they need to transition to permanent and independent living situations. In these uncertain times, the security provided by MATS is more important than ever.
The cost of operating the Peterborough shelter continues to increase. MATS depends solely on private donations and grants, as we receive no state or federal funding. Donations to MATS over the years have made our work possible and we hope — will continue to sustain our efforts on behalf of those in our area who are less fortunate.
Homelessness can happen to anyone at any time. Please send your check, made payable to MATS, to P.O. Box 3053, Peterborough, NH 03458. You may also donate via our website at www.matshn.org. Be assured that your generosity will have a direct impact. Please also consider subscribing to our monthly newsletter to stay informed of our progress.
PS. Thank you so much in advance for your support. Your gift of any size will help MATS continue to provide transitional housing to those in need in our communities.
MATS is an IRS approved 501 (c)(3) institution. Your contribution. for which no goods or services are to be received, will be tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law.
We can accept your donation with credit card or PayPal account through the PayPal cart
